If you thought Ford’s Taurus SHO-based police automobile was something to fear, wait until you get a load of the all-new 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit.
Modified for ultimate police-chase performance, the Charger Pursuit features a host of upgrades not available on the standard Charger. Autoblog explains, “Naturally, this Charger has been altered to be better suited for police duty, and includes things like heavy-duty anti-lock brakes, front and rear stabilizer bars, a two-mode police-specific stability control system and 18-inch performance tires on steel wheels.”
And though there’s no word yet on whether a SRT8 trim will be made available, Cars.com reports “that the police automobile will get the new global V-6 engine named the Pentastar. It’s a 3.6-liter that is E-85 capable, but no horsepower specifications were revealed.” In typical Dodge fashion, police departments may also select to upgrade to a monstrous 5.7-liter HEMI.
According to a Dodge press release, the 2011 Charger Pursuit will also come equipped with a “mobile-command interior” that, among other things, features a Police Interface Module for simple equipment integration, police-duty front seats, and red/white LED interior lighting for night-vision equipment. The Detroit News reports that “[t]he Dodge Police Advisory Board helped with the design of the interior.”
Earlier this year, Ford unveiled its 365-horspower Taurus-based Police Interceptor and Chevrolet its 355-horspower Caprice-based Police Patrol Vehicle. The Charger Pursuit, however, looks the most menacing by far. Car and Driver describes its look as taking “sinister to a whole new level.” Surely its performance capabilities will match.
The 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit will be available to police departments next month.
